The Photic Zone

Huge shout out to Colin Apt and The Photic Zone for hooking up a real nice Yellow Tang and new ATI bulbs for my T5! Got everyone in the tank happy again and solved a couple issues for me. This kind of service and help is what would have kept me in the hobby years ago, but definitely will now!

I have a 250 gallon SPS dominant tank and The Photic Zone has turned my tank around 360 degrees! I couldn't figure out for years why my SPS was browning or dying. I am pleased to write this letter of recommendation for Colin Apt and The Photic Zone, LLC. We are thrilled with his approach and care of our salt water tank inside the Children’s Museum of Skagit County (CMSC). The tank has been under his care since the end of 2015.

Colin Apt took over the care of our salt water tank after it had been essentially abandoned. Colin saved all of the aquatic life possible by removing them and storing them off-site. The state of our tank necessitated that it be completely emptied, cleaned and then restarted. He methodically added new components and marine creatures in a thoughtful manner, to ensure the survival of all.

The tank now looks fantastic, much to the delight of the children, families and educators that come to the museum! In the eight months that he has been a part of CMSC, Colin has provided excellent care of our tank in a highly professional manner. He has developed a scheduled maintenance plan and he has followed through. Additionally, he is well educated and informed about aquatic and marine life. He is able to share that knowledge with visitors and staff at the museum.
